Simple Inexpensive Living Room Spring Makeovers
Updated: Mar 12, 2021
The month of March beckons the sunshine and has all of us Midwesterners anticipating warmer days ahead. We tend to get excited when the temperatures reach the above freezing marks early. The Spring cleaning bug seems to bite each of us in different ways.
When I get the bug I tend to clean out closets and redecorate my main living areas.

My favorite room to freshen up is the living room. I live in a small farmhouse with minimal square footage which can have it's benefits and frustrations. I move my furniture around faithfully this time of year. Change is my Sanity! I am going to share with you tips for simple inexpensive living room makeovers.
Choose Your Color Palette

What color is drawing your interest this Spring? Is it the latest color on trend or is it your favorite old stand by? This year I added pops of soft pink and sage greens. Choose what best suits your personality. If you are struggling in this area, reach out to an interior designer, a friend, or Pinterest. There are numerous avenues to take to make this design fun and entertaining.
Pillows
Pillows, Pillows, Pillows...what more can I say! Change out your pillows! This is a super quick and easy way to add color. They can range in prices from $25 each to $75 plus. You choose your budget. My top three favorite stores for pillow shopping are:
1. Home Comforts in Williston, ND
2. Kirklands in Bismarck, ND
3. TJ Maxx in Bismarck, ND
I tend to set my pillows off balance with 2-3 pillows on one side of the sofa or loveseat. I use smaller lumbar pillows for recliners and accent chairs. Play around with fabric textures, there are a lot of choices.
Throw Blankets
Throw blankets are a functional way to add color and texture to your living room. We use our throws every evening to cuddle up on the sofa and watch tv. I prefer draping my blankets off one side of my accent chairs and at times I fold them in half and place over the back of the sofa, for a clean and inviting look. My favorite stores to shop at for throw blankets are the same as the places I shop for pillows.
Plants
Try adding life to your living room with a wide variety of potted plants. My favorite plant to work with is the snake plant. It is incredibly easy to care for and does well in both high and low light rooms. I love working with Teale Wold and her team at Mabe's Flower Market in Watford City. They have great customer service and have an amazing selection to choose from.

Trays
Trays are a common addition to my living room decor. I place them on top of coffee tables and ottomans. They can be decorative, functional, as well as a focal point. I often use them as a centerpiece for dining room tables. Be creative and don't be afraid to add decor with height. Trays are incredibly functional for organizing and containing remote controls, coasters, and magazines. The handles on the trays make them easy to pick up and remove unwanted decor if you need more space. You can find decorative trays at any home decor store or online shop.
I hope these Spring tips will help you get in the mood to freshen up your nest and cultivate ideas for inexpensive home decorating updates in your living rooms. I wish you all a happy Spring and a blessed Easter.
